A DECADE OF THE ARTS EXHIBITION

Pictured: Jo Baker with Dr George Petelin at the opening of the ADoA Exhibition.

To celebrate the tenth year that Tamborine Mountain State High has been in operation, two exhibitions were held during September and October. An exhibition of work by past Tamborine Mountain State High students was at the Centre in Beaudesert and an exhibition by present students at the Tamborine Mountain Library.

The past students’ exhibition aptly named A Decade of Arts revealed a diverse reflection of creative and artistic contributions by artists, designers, filmmakers and photographers, some of whom are now experts within their chosen Arts related careers, and are fast gaining wonderful reputations for their talent.

The Exhibition was opened on Saturday September 19 by Dr George Petelin, currently Senior Lecturer in Art Theory and Criticism at Queensland College of Art, Griffith University, after discussing the influential impact that Art, design and visual media has on our daily lives. Past and present school staff and students, family and friends at the opening witnessed diverse approaches and creative skills demonstrated by past students revealing some of their life experiences since leaving school from documenting the lives of people in Australia, Fiji, Papua and Uganda to showcasing their fashion, interior and graphic designs.

Not only were guests at the opening visually stimulated by works on display, but they were entertained by past student musicians Dion Damon and David Baker. Spice of Life catered for the event with Marcus Jeffrey, Isaac Salisbury and Breana Lancaster offering voluntary assistance. This unique exhibition has been a wonderful opportunity for our young artists, some exhibiting work for the first time. Even before the exhibition commenced, encouraging comments and offers were made to the artists, including job proposals and commissions.

It has been a community effort all round and thanks must go to members of the Tamborine Mountain State High School, the P & C, parents and friends for their support and assistance. Also, thanks to the Scenic Rim Council for providing the opportunity to have our exhibition in such a terrific venue as the Centre.

Featured works were created by Loretta Attwater, Meaghan Bailey, Emily Baker, Sophie Baker, Marieka Cavanagh, Leilani Croucher, Will Dalyell, Melissa McLeary, Kate Mocsay, Hanno Ochoteco, Amy Perkin, Ebony Peters, Emma Plant, Annika Salisbury, Kirsti Tenni and Melanie Wilson.
