Junior Secondary Schooling The junior secondary program encompasses subjects from the mandated and optional units of the eight Key Learning Areas (KLAs). Key Learning Areas are: - English

- Studies of Society and Environment (SOSE)
- The Arts
Senior Schooling 11- 12 Subject selection for the Senior Certificate studied over Years 11 and 12 offers a range of options. The subjects chosen may reflect a particular specialisation or may allow students, as yet not confirmed in their career choices, to keep their options open. Levels of Achievement awarded on exit from Year 12 form the basis of a student's Overall Position (OP) or selection rank. Vocational Education and Training Tamborine Mountain State High School recognises the value of vocational education and training (VET) programs for school students as an integral part of a sound general education. Our school is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO), under the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF). Our national provider number is 30624. VET is a structured sequence of training and education, recognised across Australia. It is delivered in the form of accredited competencies from endorsed training packages leading to recognised qualifications under the Australian Qualifications Framework. Students may be undertaking:
- Recognised VET as a part of the post-compulsory curriculum programs.
- School Based Apprenticeships or Traineeships while studying for their Senior Certificate
- Five authority subjects (qualifying them for an Overall Position "OP") and selecting one VET for interest or simply to enhance part time employment opportunities while studying at university
- A course that interests them knowing that they may still qualify for tertiary study by gaining a selection rank.
Subjects which contain VET at Tamborine Mountain State High School are: Industrial Skills (Furnishing), Personal Development - Work Readiness. Workplace Learning Work Experience – How it Works - Students go to a workplace usually from 1 day a week for a few weeks, or 1 week block (for year 10’s) or for a few days if trialling for a school-based traineeship/apprenticeship position.
- Student is NOT paid during work experience.
- While student is on work experience they are covered by Education Qld Insurance to and from and during work times.
What is the difference between a traineeship and an apprenticeship? - A traineeship is usually completed in 12 to 18 months.
- Examples: Business, IT, Retail.
- An apprenticeship (trade) commonly takes 3-4 years.
- Examples: Carpentry, Plumbing, Hairdressing.
- A student must work at least 48 days in a calendar year, i.e. 1 day a week.
- This can be on weekends or during the school week.

All curriculum areas within the school make regular use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) to assist in the learning of students. Throughout a student's education at Tamborine Mountain State High School, a student will have regular and constant interaction with ICTs.
