Welcome to Tamborine Mountain State High School, a high performing state high school nestled amongst the rainforest in the hinterland of the Gold Coast. Our school is built on the lands of the Wangiburra People, and the word Tamborine is from the Yugambeh language that means “wild lime", referring to the finger limes that grow wild on the Mountain.
Our school is deeply committed to being a supportive community for each other and for our broader community, which extends off the Mountain into the surrounding Scenic Rim. We ensure that every person who enters our school feels safe, welcome and included.
Here at TMSHS, we are far more than a place for learning the curriculum. We are a thriving hub of opportunities, experiences and growth. We are dedicated to developing resilient, confident and happy, life-long learners. We strive to make every year memorable and meaningful for both students and staff.
RIC is our school mascot, and his name reflects our school values: Respect, Integrity and Care. Our school rules align with these values, and our students are explicitly taught the behaviours expected of them to ensure that these values are lived every day.
We uphold a culture of high expectations for behaviour, learning and engagement that ensures that our core business of education remains sacred. Our classrooms are learning havens, protected by consistent school-wide expectations and follow-up. Our students have the right to learn, our staff have the right to teach, and everyone has the right to feel safe. We are proud to say that our school environment reflects this every day.
We have a very strong focus on student wellbeing and ensuring everyone feels they belong to our community. Our dedicated Wellbeing Engagement and Behaviour Hub, our WEBH, is home to a team of three Deputy Principals, three Heads of Department, five Teachers, two Social Workers, one Guidance Officer, two First Nations support staff, and several Teacher Aides who all work together to support student safety, engagement and learning.
Our high expectations and standards extend into academics where year, on year, our school performs above state average in all domains and year levels in NAPLAN and each year we celebrate the high ATAR achievements that include multiple students receiving 100% in General subjects. 100% of our students graduate with a QCE or QCIA, a minimum Cert II and exceed State average in university entry and vocational training.
Our curriculum offerings are diverse and regularly reviewed to ensure they meet the needs of the community while upholding the requirements of the Australian Curriculum, ASQA (VET) and QCAA. We have commenced our Summit Academies which currently deliver Education Queensland approved excellence programs in STEM, Soccer and Rugby League, with future expansion planned in the Arts.
Alongside a wide range of academic programs for students on an ATAR pathway, we also offer industry standard vocational pathways both within our school timetable and through school-based traineeships and apprenticeships. We have partnerships across Health, Construction, the Arts, Agribusiness, Hospitality, Business and Tourism in addition to our University partnerships with Griffith, SCU and Bond.
Our students can also extend their learning and leadership though a multitude extra-curricular opportunities and experiences.
We look forward partnering with you in the secondary education journey of the young people of the Tamborine Mountain and Scenic Rim community.
